Custom Bee Nets

Technical Security for Live Cargo: Custom Bee Nets

We supply custom bee nets to commercial beekeepers and carriers across the Midwest and throughout the United States, supporting operations that travel coast-to-coast during peak pollination seasons.

The Industry Standard for Safe and Efficient Bee Transport

Transporting honey bee colonies is one of the most challenging jobs in flatbed trucking because you are dealing with a highly sensitive living commodity. Honey bee colonies are highly temperature-sensitive and require consistent airflow and careful heat management during transport.

At T.R.S. Industries, we manufacture custom bee nets built for durability, airflow, and dependable containment in demanding transport conditions. These specialized bee hauling tarps are designed to keep bees with their colonies, protect them from road debris, and help reduce the risk of bees escaping during transport, supporting safer roadside conditions for drivers and the public. We combine heavy-duty materials with precision engineering to create a containment system that handles the rigors of long-distance commercial pollination routes, including seasonal migrations for almond, fruit, and specialty crop pollination. Since 1983, T.R.S. Industries has manufactured industrial-grade tarps and containment systems, including bee nets trusted by professional beekeepers and commercial carriers nationwide.

Uses and Features

Professional Grade Features and Design

Our bee nets and bee hauling tarps are purpose-built to balance total containment with the high airflow necessary to help prevent colony loss caused by overheating during transport.

Heavy-Duty Vinyl-Coated Mesh

PVC-coated mesh offers greater abrasion resistance and longevity compared to many standard polyethylene netting materials. This coating is flexible, abrasion-resistant, and designed to remain flexible in both high and low temperature conditions.

Integrated Ventilation

The mesh structure is breathable enough to allow water droplets from sprinkler systems or cooling reefers to reach the hives, ensuring the bees stay hydrated and cool during daytime stops.

Heat-Welded Seams

To ensure maximum strength, our seams are heat-welded rather than just stitched. This process creates a permanent bond that reduces the likelihood of fraying or tearing under sustained wind pressure.

Reinforced Anchor Points

Our nets are designed with multiple reinforced D-rings or grommets, allowing you to spread the securing tension evenly across the load to avoid crushing fragile wooden hives.

9-Foot Drops

Standard sets feature a 9-foot drop to provide full coverage for stacked pallets on a flatbed trailer. Shorter drops are sold, as well.

Options and Styles

Customization Options and Availability

We understand that beekeeping operations vary in scale, which is why we offer both ready-to-ship and made-to-order solutions for those seeking reliable bee hauling tarps. Manufactured in-house in the USA, our bee nets are built to meet the durability demands of commercial beekeeping operations.

Stocked 2-Piece Sets

For operators who need protection immediately, we keep 2-piece sets in stock for standard flatbed configurations. These are ready for fast deployment and provide the same high-level protection as our custom orders.

Made-to-Order Specifications

If your operation uses non-standard pallets or unique trailer heights, we can manufacture a net to your exact dimensions. Our in-house manufacturing team can build nets based on current material availability, allowing you to match your fleet's branding or increase visibility for safety.

Why is specialized mesh better than a solid vinyl tarp for bees?

Bees generate a significant amount of heat when they are stressed or active during the day. A solid vinyl tarp would trap this heat and humidity, leading to rapid overheating and colony loss. Mesh allows continuous airflow, helping heat and carbon dioxide dissipate while allowing fresh air circulation.

How do bee nets improve public safety?

Road vibrations often cause bees to become dislodged from their hive structures during transport. A properly secured net helps contain dislodged bees during transit and reduces the likelihood of bees escaping at stops or during unloading. When properly installed and secured, our nets create a physical barrier designed to help contain bees within the load area.

Can these nets be used to feed the bees while on the road?

Yes. The open mesh design allows beekeepers to spritz hives with sugar syrup or water without removing the net. This is critical for keeping bees nourished and calm during long-distance hauls.

What is the best way to secure a bee net to a flatbed?

We recommend using bungee straps or winch straps secured through the integrated D-rings. It is important to spread the tension across as many anchor points as possible to keep the net firmly in place without applying excessive force that could damage the hive boxes beneath. Always follow DOT cargo securement regulations and manufacturer guidelines when securing loads.
